About Maha Sadashiva (25‑Faced Shiva)

Iconography & Symbolism:

Also known as “Maha Sadashiva,” this grand form of Shiva features 25 heads, corresponding to the 25 Maheshwara murtis described in Shaiva Agamas and Puranas, representing the varied cosmic aspects and divine functions of Shiva. These include the five primary faces (Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha, Ishana) along with their grouped extensions.

Multiplicity and Power:

The statue is often depicted with 50 hands and 75 eyes, symbolizing omnipotence and omniscience. This reflects Shiva’s universal scope and the mastery over creation, preservation, and destruction.

Sacred Tradition:

Maha Sadashiva is recognized within the panchavimshatimurti (the 25 cosmic forms of Shiva) framework in Agamic scriptures, and is revered in Shaiva Siddhanta as the ultimate, multi‑faceted supreme being.

Philosophical Depth:

His 25 heads correspond to the 25 tattvas (principles of reality) in Samkhya philosophy, weaving profound metaphysical meaning into the iconography .
