Introducing the Handi—a traditional pot-shaped utensil cherished for centuries for its slow-cooking abilities. Foods cooked in a Handi boast a unique flavor and aroma that can’t be replicated.
From Kichdi and Biryani to Rice, Pulao, Pongal, and all types of gravies, the Handi, also known as a Biryani Pot, is the go-to vessel for a range of delectable dishes.
Our journey to revive Indian crafts led us to a village near Amritsar, where the Thatheras are renowned for their traditional brass and copper craft of utensil making. This craft has been recognized and included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Despite its rich heritage, the number of families practicing this craft has dwindled from 400 to a mere 15. Cooking in brass has been ingrained in our culture since ancient times, as brass is known to preserve the antioxidants and over 90% of the nutrition of the food cooked in it. Additionally, brass retains heat, keeping food warm for hours.
