The Patila / Topia is a traditional utensil with a flat bottom and straight sides, ideal for various cooking tasks such as boiling water, milk, making tea, preparing chicken gravies, lentils or daals, rice pudding or kheer, rasam or sambhar, and several gravy dishes.
Brass also aids in preserving over 90% of the nutrition of food cooked in them, while retaining heat to keep food warm for a couple of hours. Dishes cooked in a Patila boast a unique flavor and aroma.
Our journey to rejuvenate crafts of India led us to a village near Amritsar, where the Thatheras are renowned for their traditional brass and copper craft of utensil making. This craft has been recognized and included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Despite its rich heritage, the number of families practicing this craft has dwindled from 400 to a mere 15.
Experience the tradition and craftsmanship with Velanstore’s Patila / Topia—where every dish tells a story of heritage and flavor.
